Children’s Social Workers

Excel and grow within your career with our Social Work Academy. We’re looking for newly qualified and experienced staff to join our supportive team, rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Below are five of the main benefits for children’s social workers at Oxfordshire County Council.

A £3,500 golden hello
We offer this to experienced children’s social workers to show how much we value them, and how committed we are to investing in them.

The Oxfordshire Social Work Academy
This innovative approach to training offers outstanding practice knowledge and professional development opportunities to all our social workers.  We also offer a tailored six week induction and top rate assessed and supported programme for newly qualified social workers in their first year of practice.

Manageable case loads
It’s important that team members have time to do their work, and that they do it to the best of their ability. Keeping case loads manageable is a key focus for us.

£8,000 towards relocation
Don’t live in Oxfordshire? No problem. We offer our successful applicants up to £8,000 to grease the wheels of the removal van.

Plus you get all the benefits of being an Oxfordshire County Council team member.

Covid working

We have adapted our working practices to enable us to continue to provide the best support possible to children and families, whilst ensuring that our teams feel safe, as we continue to work through the Covid-19 pandemic. Social Workers in our statutory teams currently work both at home and in the office when on Duty. We know that not everyone is able to work from home, so we offer dedicated office-based workstations when needed. We also offer flexible hours, so that when needed, our staff can work at times best suited to them and their families.

We hold regular briefings online from managers, and provide face to face support when needed. Throughout the pandemic, we have offered pastoral support to our colleagues on both a one to one and team basis, and our Principal Social Worker leads regular sessions to ensure that staff stay connected.
